Qualified Charitable Distributions
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)
If you are age 70½ or older, you can support our mission through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA. A QCD can satisfy all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and may reduce your taxable income.
What Is a QCD?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution is a direct transfer from your IRA to a qualified nonprofit. Because the funds never pass through your hands, QCDs can offer meaningful tax advantages while making a lasting impact.
How to Make a QCD to Serpent Lake Association
Step 1 — Contact Your IRA Custodian
Ask your IRA administrator to issue a Qualified Charitable Distribution directly to:
Serpent Lake Association
EIN: 41-1802117
PO Box 580 Deerwood, MN 56444
Your custodian must send the check directly from your IRA for the gift to qualify as a QCD.
Step 2 — Have Your Custodian Mail the Check
All QCD gifts must be sent by check. Please have your custodian mail it to:
Serpent Lake Association
PO Box 580 Deerwood, MN 56444
Make checks payable to: Serpent Lake Association
Step 3 — Include Donor Information
To ensure we can properly record and acknowledge your gift, please ask your custodian to include:
-
- Your full name
- Your mailing address
- A note indicating the gift is a Qualified Charitable Distribution
- The name of your IRA custodian
If any information is missing, please contact us so we can match the gift to your donor record.
Tax Acknowledgment
Once your QCD arrives, we will send you an acknowledgment confirming:
- The amount and date of the transfer
- That the gift came directly from your IRA custodian
- That no goods or services were provided in exchange for the gift
This letter serves as your documentation for tax reporting.
